More goodies from ACF!

Hi, everyone!

I wished you a happy break in the last e-mail, expecting it to be the
last one, which of course means that it couldn't be :) But I think
you'll agree that there's reasonable cause for me to send out a
second.

Two things:

First, here are a couple of conferences that were brought to my
attention: they're specifically targeted toward Korean students (the
first one's in Rochester!)

Global Korean Young Adult Mission Festival (GKYM) 2009 (ROCHESTER,
NY!): http://www.gkym.net/2009/index.php

Vision 2010 (Korea Campus Crusade for Christ in America) (Princeton,
NJ): http://www.visionconferenceny.com/index.php

They both look pretty awesome!

Second, PT would like to remind you about the retreat in January, and
give you a chance to register! If all goes well, the registration
form should be attached to this e-mail.
By the way, the speaker for the retreat is the same person who gave
the last message of our fall festival - I don't know about you, but
I'm super excited to hear from him again!

From PT:

ACFers,

Hey gang! I hope you are all gaining steam as you
head into finals if you're from Eastman or UR. Its hard to
believe we are also on the verge of completing another
calendar year! Soon 2009 will be behind us and 2010 will
be upon us!

I wanted to email to let you know that we are getting ready for
the winter retreat which will happen shortly after you return from
winter break on January 29-31. I am sending out the registration
with the hope that you will consider registering before you leave for
Christmas break. I know you have a lot to think about academically
but please read this over and begin to think and pray about committing
to attending and registering early. You can print out this form and give
it to your small group leader or me.

Thanks!!!

Pastor Tom

And that's all (I think...)
So again, have an awesome break! See you around!

IV Christmas Party

For those of you who are still around remember the IV gift making Christmas Party is tonight at 7:00 in the Sol Activity Room. More details below:

Christmas Party-Advent Conspiracy style!
Instead of spending a lot of money on presents this year, come make great gifts such as peanut brittle, knitting and pictures with Santa!
Join us in Sol Activity room at 7pm Friday 12/18 for snacks, fun, and gift making, as well as some live TSO covers.

It would be TERRIFIC if you could bring snacks and games!

We ask that you donate $2 if you make a gift, and consider donating the rest of the money you're saving on an expensive gift, to Living Water International.

See you there! If not have a great Christmas and remember to spend time with God, he is really who we are celebrating.

27 million people, and we can help

Hello friends,

Tis the season for runny noses, candy canes and of courseeeee NEW STUDENT OUTREACH! This year we are doing a week of awareness about human trafficking. Since social justice, and more specifically human trafficking is something a lot of people are passionate about fighting, this seemed like a great opportunity to work with the rest of the campus towards fighting such a crazy thing in this world.

There are 27 million people all over the world that are being trafficked, and there are so many things that we as college students can do to combat it. To raise awareness and rally the troops, one type of trafficking is going to be the focus of every day, with a display in the SAU and a table where you can act now. A few of the days might have something during the evening/night as well.

To pull off an entire week of human trafficking awareness, it takes all of us. There are many ways you can help out, including roles that are drama related, making signs, setting up/cleaning up, and being available for random things as well. The majority of this will be happening 11-2 but please still let me know if you are interested and not available that time. There are plenty of prep things that you can help out with.

Please let me know by this Monday at: allison.smith87@gmail.com if you would love to be a part of this! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or thoughts.

Thanks much and I look forward to working as a chapter with our campus to break the chain of human trafficking.

Also, this week's meeting is the last large group of the semester, so there will be no large group on Friday night.

Upcoming...

Winter Conferences!

Hopefully your winter break doesn't look like a protracted exercise in boredom at home.  If it does, however, there are lots of things going on over winter break to break it up!  And even if it doesn't, there are lots of opportunities for you to be really blessed!  I mean, that's true whether you stay at home or not, but...look, just work with me here.  These conferences are an opportunity to join with many other college-aged students and worship and learn and fellowship together.  They're always a lot of fun, and most usually times of awesome blessing.  You might want to consider checking them out...here are links to a couple of websites.  There are certainly more.

Urbana '09 (St. Louis, MO):  http://www.urbana09.org/home.main.cfm

*International House of Prayer (Kansas City, MO):  http://www.ihop.org/Group/Group.aspx?ID=1000039144

Boston Winter Conference (...Boston, MA):  http://www.bostonwinterconference.com/

Passion 2010 (Atlanta, GA):  http://268generation.com/passion2010/

*OIL (Montrose, PA):  http://www.winteroil.org/

*Indicates that I know that some people from ACF are planning on going this winter.

Several of us went to OIL last year, and it was definitely awesome.  If you want to know more about it, ask me, Liz, Alvin, Eric Meyer, or Matt Yun - we'd all be happy to talk about it!

Winter Retreat!
Every winter, Agape puts on a retreat specially for our fellowship!  We go to the beautiful Salvation Army camp in Penn Yan, NY (on Seneca lake!), where we experience close fellowship, great teaching, and lots of good (non-campus!) food!  This is always a great time of growth, both in our relationships to God and in our relationships to each other.  The cost is about $75, so start saving up - you don't want to miss out!

Well, that's all I've got!  I pray that you all will have a good last week of classes / exams, that you will find god sufficient in the midst of crazy amounts of studying / paper writing / whatever it is that you have to do, and that you are all crazy blessed over the break!  See you around!

ACF Announcements!

Hi, everyone!  The year is heading toward the end, but there's still stuff going on with ACF!  So read on...

First, THIS SATURDAY is Christmas Praise Night!  That's right - it's really, really soon, so you should be discussing skit ideas with your respective classes!  We'll give you some time to get together on Friday, but it's probably a good idea to at least have some basis to start from beforehand.
Christmas Praise Night is an ACF tradition where we come together and remind ourselves what the true meaning of Christmas is, in skit form.  It's pretty epic, and if you miss it, you'll probably be sorry.  Just saying.
The event itself starts at 7:00 PM, and takes place at RKUMC.  There will be rides leaving from Eastman Dorms, RIT SOL Circle, UR ITS, and UR GLC at 6:30 PM.  Don't be late! :)
Oh, and we'll be having pizza afterward!

Friday
, we're going to be practicing for Christmas Praise Night.  Your group may decide a place to meet - otherwise we'll all just meet in the Gowen Room at the U of R, at 7:30, and from there divide up into classes to work on the skits.
We're still meeting at 7:30 PM, and there will be rides at 7:00 PM from RIT SOL Cirlce and the Eastman Dorms.  Come with ideas!

Sunday we'll be providing rides to the English Service at RKUMC, where PT will be speaking!  Afterward, there will be bagels and fellowship :)  Rides are from Eastman Dorms, RIT SOL Circle, UR ITS, and UR GLC at 8:45 AM; the service starts at 9:15 AM.

Prayer Meetings are still up and running on all three campuses!

RIT:
Thursdays, Commons Room DC 2120, 9 PM

Eastman:
Wednesdays, Director's Dining, 9 PM.

U of R:
Wednesdays, Commons Room of the Interfaith Chapel, 9 PM.
Thursdays, Sue B. Solarium, 9 PM.

Next Friday is the last large group of the semester, and it's another meeting of FUSE!  For those of you who've forgotten, this is when several of the Christian groups at the U of R get together for a night of encouragement and fellowship.  If you liked what happened last time, don't miss out on this one!  It won't be exactly the same, of course - we like to switch it up.  But it should still be awesome, and a great way to be encouraged going into finals!  As of right now, details need to be finalized, but it should be at the regular place and time.

Finally, if anyone wants a vintage ACF T-shirt, PT is going to be selling some extras from years gone by!  If you want in, bring some cash to the large group on Friday - there isn't a set price yet, but he's thinking somewhere around $5.

That's all for now, everyone - may your week go smoothly, even in the midst of heavy workloads!

-David Wit
